MANTEO — An Avon man incarcerated last month on multiple charges of alleged sexual crimes against a child spanning over four years now faces three additional charges of indecent liberties with a child.

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office charged 68-year-old Luther Grandy Hooper III of the 40100 block of C C Gray Road in Avon with three additional counts of felony indecent liberties with a minor on Friday, March 7, online court records show.

Hooper’s bond was increased from $400,000 to $700,000 with the addition of the three new charges.

The sheriff’s office issued a press release via Facebook on Sunday, March 9, about Hooper’s new charges. The release thanked the public for the calls already received related to the investigation.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” the release said.

Anyone with information related to the investigation can call Capt. Doug Oberbeck at 252-475-9355 or the Dare County Sheriff’s Office at 252-475-5980.
