NAGS HEAD — A collision involving a Town of Nags Head fire truck and a bicyclist on Highway U.S. 158 (South Croatan Highway) took place in Nags Head on Saturday, but details are scarce.
“At about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, an adult male bicyclist was involved in a collision with a Town of Nags Head fire truck, at a signalized intersection near the 5300 block of South Croatan Highway,” according to a town press release sent just before noon on Sunday in response to Outer Banks Insider’s Saturday evening query.
“The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident,” the release said.
A Nags Head Police Department social media post around 5 p.m. Friday announced: “First responders are currently working an accident” in the area of Epstein Street and South Croatan Highway, with southbound traffic being diverted.
That intersection with Epstein Street and West Seachase Drive is near the Outback Steakhouse in Nags Head. It has traffic signals and a crosswalk.
“We extend our sincere concern to all individuals impacted by this incident,” the release continued. “As this is an active investigation, we are unable to provide additional details at this time.”
The Town of Nags Head has not released the medical status of the man who was on the bicycle.
