Outer Banks state senate and house races
Outer Banks voters on Tuesday reelected the incumbent Republican legislators to both the North Carolina Senate and to the North Carolina House of Representatives.
Dare County’s state senator will change due to the 2023 redrawing state maps effective for the 2024 election. Dare County will also have a larger area included in House District 1. Currituck and Hyde counties remain in the same districts as they were under the 2022 redrawn maps.
The North Carolina General Assembly redrew maps in 2023 effective for the 2024 election. (Map courtesy North Carolina General Assembly website)
Sen. Bobby Hanig (R-Currituck), formerly representing Senate District 3, was reelected to the Senate District 1 seat. Hanig had 62,483, or 57.27%, of the votes in the new district, while Susan Harman-Scott (D-Dare) had 46,624, or 42.73%, of the votes.
District 3 currently includes Bertie, Camden, Currituck, Gates, Halifax, Hertford, Martin, Northampton, Tyrrell and Warren counties. District 1 will include Bertie, Camden, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Tyrrell.
Sen. Norm Sanderson (R-Pamlico), formerly representing Senate District 1, was reelected to the Senate District 2 seat. Sanderson had 62,669, or 56.07%, of the votes in the new district, while Tare (T) Davis (D-Warren) had 46,715, or 41.80% of votes, and Maria Cormos (L-Carteret) had 2,379, or 2.13%.
